Wine Question

Wine Related Question wine creeping up cork

We have 2 cases of wine that I'm finding the wine is creeping up the cork by almost 2/3's of the length of the cork. Is the wine ok or is it spoiled for the choice of a better word. The wine tastes a little off to me

Answer by: Roger C. Bohmrich, MW

This could be a sign that the wine has been exposed to heat, which causes the wine to expand and to be forced up between the glass and cork. Are any bottles actually leaking wine from beneath the capsule? If so, this would confirm the likelihood that the wine has experienced fairly high temperatures. You should inspect all the bottles for "weeping."

On the other hand, the cork in the bottle you drank might not have created the proper seal, as sometimes occurs, and the others might be just fine. How is the wine currently being stored - under cool, stable conditions?
