| CELEBRATE THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPEAL OF PROHIBITION!
In 1933 on December 5, America threw a national party to celebrate the Repeal of Prohibition. Judging from historical accounts, it was a pretty wild occasion. For 13 years from 1920 until 1933 Americans were denied the civilized pastime of enjoying a glass of wine or a cocktail. No wonder they let off steam! Seventy-five years later, the wineries, merchants and restaurants of St. Helena think it’s time for some fun and another celebration. After all, without Repeal, formally known as the 21st Amendment, St. Helena as a center of great wines, outstanding restaurants and delightful shopping opportunities could not exist.
Spearheaded by the wineries of Appellation St. Helena, wineries, merchants and restaurants will be offering creative events and discounts tied to the themes of Prohibition and Repeal from Friday, December 5 through Sunday, December 7. Visit the web site www.appellationsthelena.com to find who is participating and what is being offered. All the information can be downloaded for easy planning and the interactive map will locate the wineries. You are sure to find a speakeasy or two and be on the lookout for discounts that reflect the era of 1920, 1933 and 75 years. It’s the perfect weekend to shop for holiday wines and gifts and enjoy big savings. And don’t forget to check out the restaurants for special menus and wine flights.
Since the Repeal Celebration coincides with St. Helena’s Hometown Holiday, make it a family weekend. Santa Claus will be coming to town on a fire truck after his pancake breakfast, which is open to everyone.
